You Gotta Wonder About the World of File Sharing

We learn to live with and accept the world of file sharing on the net. You have the bit torrent community and the P2P community and others. Everybody is sharing files of every kind with everyone else. It just becomes a part of the landscape and no one really thinks much about it. If there is something that you want you can pretty much find someone who has it somewhere on the net. That is for the most part.

Then one day something happens and you have to ask yourself the question "Just who is behind the file sharing on the net"?

The situation that sparked that question is the movie from Oliver Stone which is titled "W". Now we know it was released in theaters last Friday (Oct 17). We are not sure how wide of a release it was or how many theaters it is currently playing in, but even if it was 2 this would still illicit the same question and here is why.

All you have to do today if you want a movie to watch at home without going to the theater or to a movie rental store is to pull up Google and type in the title of the movie and hit search. Whether you have a bit torrent client or newsgroups or P2P or an ftp you can just about find whatever you want. Currently playing movies can be had as well. They are normally camcorder versions which means they aren't that clear but they are indeed watchable. Enough that you will be able to decide whether or not you will want to download the dvd version when it gets released on the net.

Now with that being said, I was wondering just how "popular" the movie "W" was going to be on the net. I figured it would be quite popular because of the selection process. But a funny thing happened when I hit the search button on Google. I found it listed on IMDB and Wikipedia but I could not find one copy of it in ANY FORM on ANY file sharing sites. I wondered "Why Is This"?

Then I got to thinking, if the powers that be really wanted file sharing to stop it would take nothing at all to shut all these sites, forums, trackers, newsgroups down. No trouble for them at all. Some people would like to think that the net is too vast to do something like that. I promise you it isn't. It is not nearly as big as one would think.

I probably would never really have given this much thought had it been any other movie. But this one? At this particular time? I don't think this is coincidence. Not at all.

I find it extremely hard to believe that there is not ONE person out there who does not have a camcorder & is recording that movie in a theater somewhere. Or wherever they do that and then put it out for us to consume like animals.

Listen, the people who are making these files available are working out of one location on the eastern seaboard and they get these movies and do whatever it is that they do to them and release them on sites that they OWN and MAINTAIN. This is not Joe Schmuckatelli's bit torrent forum we are talking about. Every site or forum or newsgroup is run, maintained, owned and operated by the powers that be. I won't name them. I don't have to. Everyone knows who they are. But they are the ones who run the majority of what is on the net. Most people don't even want to know how vast of an operation it is.

The powers that be never cease to amaze me with the things they try to get away with. They knew that people were going to be looking for this movie to be around and when it hasn't shown up in a week, then something is up. The reason that this movie is not in circulation by now is because it is only intended for the saps that are going to go to the theater to see it. Those people are not going to make enough of a difference to any selection process. This movie is being controlled for a reason. If the people on the net got to watch it it would probably sway some attitudes here in the states and abroad. They can't have that. Not yet. You will get the movie after the selection process.

If the powers that be want the spotlight turned on them so specifically, keep doing this type of thing. I mean it doesn't take a genius to figure out who is putting all this software and entertainment material out here to be downloaded.

But if all of Oliver Stone's movies were hard to find I wouldn't think much of it. But all his movies can be had with a few mouse clicks. He isn't that special of a director that he is hard to find. I doubt he is doing this. But I am willing to bet that the powers that be are because they want to achieve some kind of ridiculous result by doing this when the only thing they are going to do is draw unwanted and unnecessary attention to themselves and force a situation that they really don't want right now. I do wish they would stick to the agenda, because the animals aren't ready to be weaned off the net just yet.

Why must it always be the stupid people in power?
